2024 Agricola Flaxman Valley Shiraz Barossa Valley – The Powell family have been making award winning wines in the Barossa for decades. Now son Callum has released his on Barossa label. These wines are totally different to your usual big, bold reds of the Barrosa – lower alcohol, lo-fi, pure and elegant.This release sees 3 wines in the range – Ebenezer, Flaxman Valley and K’ Sands. 2024 was a considerably dry growing season, though a mild harvest led to small crops of intensely flavoured, well ripened fruit. The wines are built well for the cellar, but with a decant will provide enjoyable drinking in their youth.25% of this year’s Flaxman Valley shiraz has been matured in a Nomblot concrete egg to maintain the purity and finesse that these high-country vines have to offer. Fruit for this wine is sourced from Naimanya ‘Original Vineyard’, Burley ‘Hill’ and Home 100 year ‘Old Vines’. 3513 bottles produced.The first thing you notice is the alcohol level of 13.3%. But don’t fear there is still plenty of flavour and character to be had. A great mix of red and dark fruits, pepper, spice and savoury goodness. A fair whack of herbs too. The tannins are so fine and interwoven. So fresh and elegant. Ready to rock and will improve if kept open for a night or two.
